Council Bluffs, IA -- The Indian Hills volleyball team made it through the first day of the District C tournament undefeated, but couldn't win in either of their next two matches and saw their season end on Sunday. The Warriors lost a tough three-set match to top-seeded Iowa Western on Saturday and were defeated by Lake Land College the next day.
Indian Hills had a lead in all three sets against Iowa Western, but the Reivers came back to win all three. An early 3-0 lead in the first set eventually disappeared and Iowa Western won 25-22. IHCC was on top 17-12 in the second set and still led, 23-22, after a kill by Patrice Souza. Souza had another winner to tie the score at 24-all, before the Reivers scored the next two points to take the set 26-24. The Warriors really wounded themselves with seven service errors in the set.
The only lead IHCC managed in the third set was 1-0. Iowa Western roared back with eight straight points and closed out the match, 25-19.
Souza and Tahler Johnston had 12 and 11 kills, respectively, for the Warriors and Johnston and Kersten Phillips each had three blocks in the match.
In the match with Lake Land, Indian Hills got routed, 25-11 in the first set. They rallied to win the second set, 26-24, scoring the final three points of the set, but dropped the next two sets.
Souza again led in kills with 12. Wynter Davis had six blocks.
Indian Hills ended the season with a 15-13 record. Iowa Western had an easy win over Lake Land in the next match to take the district title.
