IHCC Escapes in Battle With Grand View JV

Ottumwa -- After the first set of Monday's match between Indian Hills and the Grand View JV, it appeared that the Warriors would make quick work of the visiting Vikings.  But Grand View had other ideas and battled the Warriors through three more sets before IHCC prevailed in its 17th win of the season.

Indian Hills took less than 20 minutes to win the first set, 25-8.  But the Vikings came to life after that, losing the second set, 25-20, then winning the third, 25-19, and battling to the end of the fourth set before succumbing, 25-23.  Grand View scored four straight points in that set to get to within a single point at 24-23 before a block by IHCC's Emily Eswonia and Cristiane Vosconsoles ended the set and the match.

The first set was all Indian Hills as the Warriors jumped on the visitors to take a quick 8-1 lead and were never threatened.

IHCC coach Lyndsey Lyon went to her bench in the second set, giving playing time to nearly the entire squad.  But the Warriors lost their rhythm and never did find it the rest of the match.

The Warriors didn't lead in the third set, trailing at one point, 20-11.  And they never did get a comfortable lead in the final set, either.  But they still made enough plays to improve to 17-4 for the season.

Southeastern will come to the Tom Arnold Net Center for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday night.
